Trusted profile (profil zaufany) for foreigners: how to set it up
The trusted profile (profil zaufany) is a free digital identity for Polish government services and e-signatures. Anyone aged 13 or over with a PESEL number can set one up. It is valid for 3 years and you need it (or a qualified signature) to sign and submit residence applications in the MOS portal.
Who can set it up
- Anyone who is at least 13 years old, has a PESEL number and has full or limited legal capacity.
- It is free of charge.
- You can have only one valid trusted profile, because it is tied to your PESEL.
Ways to confirm it
- Bank or other identity provider: from home, if your bank is on the (limited) list. This is why a Polish bank account helps.
- In person at a confirmation point: apply online, then show your passport or residence card at any confirmation point, for example a municipal office. You can confirm it at any point, also abroad.
- Qualified certificate or e-ID (Polish identity card with a chip), if you have one.
- The video call with an official requires a Polish identity card or Polish passport, so it is usually not an option for foreigners.
Validity
The profile is valid for 3 years from confirmation. You can extend it for another 3 years from your account.
Why you need it for MOS
An application for a temporary, permanent or EU long-term resident permit must be signed with a qualified electronic signature or a trusted profile, and you must do it yourself. See the permit guide.
