Temporary residence and work permit in Poland: how to apply

By MałgorzataPublished Updated

A temporary residence and work permit (the “single permit”) lets you live and work in Poland. You apply online in the MOS portal, pay a 440 zł stamp duty (340 zł for a board member or commercial proxy) plus a 100 zł card fee, and the office should decide within 60 days of a complete application.

Short answer. You must sign and submit the application yourself in MOS, your employer completes Annex No. 1, and both fees are paid outside MOS to the voivodeship account.

Who can apply

Citizens of non-EU countries and stateless persons who want to live and work in Poland. Board members of certain companies and commercial proxies (prokurent) can apply too.

Posted workers, intra-company transferees and seasonal workers use other permits.

Main requirements

  • Work is your real purpose of stay and justifies staying longer than 3 months.
  • You have health insurance, or will be covered by it through your employment.
  • Your profession is not on the local list of occupations closed to foreigners. Exceptions include Turkish citizens and people continuing the same job with the same employer.
  • Pay is not lower than comparable employees and not lower than the minimum wage.
  • For part-time work, the portal states at least 4,806 zł gross per month in 2026, and for several employers the combined pay counts. This figure changes every year.

What you send in MOS

  • The application form, filled in Polish and signed with a trusted profile or qualified signature through login.gov.pl.
  • Annex No. 1, completed and signed electronically by a person authorised to represent your employer.
  • A scan of all pages of your valid travel document (PDF) and a digital photo (JPG).
  • Proof of payment of the stamp duty and of the card fee.

Fees

  • Stamp duty: 440 zł for an employee, 340 zł for a board member or commercial proxy.
  • Card fee: 100 zł. It is a separate payment to a separate account.
  • You cannot pay inside MOS. Account numbers are on the website of the voivodeship office that handles your case (for Kraków, the Małopolski Voivodeship Office).

Step by step

  1. Create your MOS account and log in through login.gov.pl.
  2. Fill in the application and ask your employer to complete Annex No. 1.
  3. Pay both fees and attach the confirmations.
  4. Sign the application yourself and submit it. Download the official receipt (UPO). The application only counts once you receive it.
  5. Wait for the office to summon you. The visit is set at least 7 days after you receive the summons. Bring your travel document, give fingerprints and a specimen signature.
  6. Deliver any further documents by the deadline in the summons, never shorter than 14 days.
  7. After a positive decision, collect your residence card in person.

While you wait

If you applied correctly during legal stay, your stay stays legal until the decision becomes final, and the office generates a certificate in MOS. The certificate does not allow travel within Schengen. You may leave Poland, but you need a visa or visa-free entry rights to come back.
