# EU long-term resident permit in Poland: requirements and fees

By [Małgorzata](https://mypermit.pl/en/about.html) · Published 25 Oct 2026 · Updated 25 Oct 2026

The EU long-term resident permit gives you indefinite residence in Poland. You usually need 5 years of legal, continuous stay, Polish at B1 level confirmed by the documents the law lists, stable income and health insurance. The stamp duty is 640 zł and the card fee 100 zł. **Short answer.**Not every stay counts toward the 5 years (for example, studies are not counted in full or at all), and long trips can break continuity, so check your dates before you apply. **On this page**1. ## Requirements

- Legal and continuous stay in Poland for at least 5 years immediately before the application, with the rules the portal describes for what counts.
- Polish language at level B1 or higher, proven by specific documents named in the regulation. Not required for children under 16.
- Stable and regular income. For stays from 1 January 2025 the portal states more than 1,010 zł net per month if you live alone and 823 zł per person in a family. Income is checked for the 3 years before you apply (2 years in a specific Blue Card situation).
- Health insurance, or confirmation that an insurer covers treatment costs in Poland.
- You must be legally in Poland when you apply and until the decision.

## Who cannot get it

The permit is not available to people who are in Poland, among others, to study or for vocational training, on humanitarian grounds or temporary protection, while applying for international protection, or on certain intra-company transfer or short-stay permits.

## Breaks in your stay

A single absence from Poland must not exceed 6 months, and all absences together must not exceed 10 months in the period required for the permit. Justified absences set in the law can be treated differently.

## Fees and the card

- Stamp duty: 640 zł, paid in advance.
- Card fee: 100 zł, separate payment.
- The permit is indefinite. The card is issued for 5 years and renewed on request.

## How to apply

You apply in MOS and sign the application yourself. A proxy cannot sign or submit it. After you submit, the voivode summons you for a visit no earlier than 7 days after delivery, and sets a deadline of at least 14 days for further documents. The voivode decides within 6 months, and an appeal against a refusal must be filed within 14 days.

Leaving Poland for more than 6 years, or the EU for more than 12 consecutive months (24 months for Blue Card holders and their family), can be a ground to withdraw the permit (art. 215). **Not legal advice**This guide explains formalities.
